Sport Southland chief executive Brendon McDermott has no concerns about tomorrow night's Southland Sports Awards guest speaker Gordon Tietjens, despite his 'sexually inappropriate' joke at the Otago sports awards last Friday.

Tietjens reportedly joked about removing a woman's bra with, or without, her consent, and later apologised in a statement to the Otago Daily Times.

''It was not my intention to cause offence in any way. I sincerely apologise to anyone that was upset,'' the statement said.

''It was a joke, in hindsight, which I should never have used and I am deeply sorry.''

McDermott was confident the long-time New Zealand sevens coach would perform to expectations tonight.

''Especially being 'Sir' Gordon Tietjens, I'm sure he'll be very professional on the night. I've got no concerns. I'm sure he's apologetic and perhaps it was taken out of context, I don't know the detail. I'm sure he'll do an excellent job of our awards.''

The Celebrity Speakers website described Tietjens as ''a compelling and fascinating conference speaker''.

Tomorrow night's ILT-sponsored awards were a sellout, with 400 tickets sold for the event at the Ascot Park Hotel.

What effect will a potential ban on booze at Rugby Sevens 2015 have on you?

I'd no longer go ... what's the point?

I'd buy a ticket, with rugby the priority again.

Ban or no ban, I'm still going.

I'd rather watch 'Wheel of Fortune' on a 24/7 loop than 7s.
