More than 6000 tickets for next year's Sevens tournament were snapped up in three minutes today - but then the system crashed, leaving 12,000 still unsold.
Sevens organisers said they still don't know what caused the glitch, but have taken tickets offline until it is fixed.
Organisers are hoping to have tickets back on sale this afternoon.
Sevens Wellington general manager Steve Walters said there had been a high demand for tickets before the problem occurred.
''We apologise to the fans for any inconvenience this has caused and I assure you we're doing all we can to get it back up and running.''
Mr Walters said there were still 12,000 tickets remaining and the public would be advised via Sevens' Wellington's official Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as its website when they would be back on sale.
Ticketek is also be keeping fans updated.
