Former All Black wing Rico Gear will lineup for the Barbarians in their match up with the Highlanders at Rugby Park in Invercargill on Friday night.

The 24 players the Barbarians have named are made up of 10 Southland players, three Highlanders squad members, six players from the remainder of the South Island, two players from the North Island and three Japanese players from the club Panasonic.

The team will be coached by Southland coach Brad Mooar and the game will provide an opportunity for the 10 Southland players to impress Mooar at the next level.

On top of those 10 Southland players in the Barbarians, Scott Eade has been named as one of the halfbacks in the Highlanders squad of 26 players. Eade will join. The squad include Stags Josh Bekhuis, John Hardie, Elliot Dixon and Lima Sopoaga.

Friday night's game will kick off at 6.30pm.

The Highlanders have organised the fixture in Invercargill as a hit-out before their final three Super Rugby round-robin fixtures.
