Leinster hooker Tom Sexton will "return home" next year after signing with the Melbourne Rebels for the 2014 Super Rugby season.

Sexton was born in Melbourne, but at the age of four moved to Ireland where he went on to captain the Irish Schoolboys and play six games for European Cup champions Leinster.

The 23-year-old will join the Rebels at the end of this year and is excited by the challenge of testing himself in the 15-team southern hemisphere competition.

"I am really looking forward to it, I am obviously a little bit nervous about moving to the other side of the world again, but it is definitely very exciting," Sexton said.

"I was definitely flattered to have a team from Super Rugby interested in me.

"It was a tough decision to leave, but I am thrilled to return home to Melbourne and play for the Rebels."
