The Hurricanes will be sweating on the availability of rising star Ardie Savea for their Super Rugby season opener after he was cited for a dangerous tackle.

The alleged "lifting tackle" on Chiefs replacement half back Augustine Pulu late in Saturday's preseason match was picked up by citing commissioner Steve Hinds.

The young openside flanker will face a judicial hearing, to be held by video-conference, under the ruling of Nigel Hampton QC at 10am tomorrow.

Penalties for foul play in preseason matches - the Chiefs  won the Mangatainoka match 25-21 - carry into the season-proper.

The Hurricanes play the Blues in Wellington on Saturday night.
