You be the judge whether Conrad Smith was concussed on Saturday night.
Smith failed the Pitch Side Concussion Assessment (PSCA) shortly after his 70th minute collision with Blues opposite Rene Ranger.
The five questions Smith was put through in the medical room in the company of the match doctor and Wellington team doctor Theo Dorfling and ultimately failed were:
(1) Where are you?
(2) Who are we playing?
(3) What's the score?
(4) Who did we play last week?
(5) Who won that match?
Smith bungled at least one of those, hopefully not No 1 or No 2.
The Hurricanes skipper had another media-free day yesterday, the reason being a pre-arranged commitment that coincided with the Hurricanes media window.
Coach Mark Hammett spoke positively of his charge's health but was unaware which question or questions Smith flunked.
Hammett said Smith had passed a computerised psychometric test yesterday morning and there was further good news for the team later in the day when he completed a non-contact session.
His next step is to report in without any headache-like symptoms this morning and provided he gets through a contact session later in the day he will fly with the team to Brisbane tomorrow for Friday's game against the Reds.
"He's passed his concussion test, from there he will do a physical test and if he gets through that he will be all clear," Hammett said.
"He's in pretty good shape, he's in pretty good spirits this morning."
Hammett would not go as far as confirming Smith was concussed.
"I don't know if he was concussed," Hammett said.
"He got a knock, but he felt fine. He felt fine straight after the game when I was talking to him, but that doesn't always determine how bad a concussion is."
Smith has a history of bangs to the head, though not all are concussion-related. The most alarming was a blackout during 2010 while in 2011 he suffered a badly broken nose and last year a detached retina.
