Zac Guildford's misconduct hearing has been delayed and could impact on his hopes of playing for his Hawke's Bay club side this weekend.

The All Blacks and Crusaders wing was expected to appear at the New Zealand Rugby Union offices in Wellington yesterday but it is understood the hearing was canned at late notice at the request of the NZRU.

The 24-year-old has not played since being involved in an alcohol-related incident at a party in Christchurch in January.

There is no guarantee Guildford will not have his NZRU contract terminated, meaning the Crusaders will have to prepare for a season without their most potent finisher. The chances of him learning his fate this week are remote.

After completing a programme for his alcohol issues in an up-market clinic in the central North Island, Guildford hoped to maintain his fitness by making a pre-season appearance for his Napier Tech club in Taupo this weekend.

A club official yesterday said they were still waiting for confirmation Guildford was eligible. They hoped his situation would be clarified yesterday after the proposed hearing.

Since withdrawing from the Crusaders in late January Guildford has been based in the North Island with girlfriend and jockey Sam Spratt.

The NZRU and Crusaders have refused to comment on when or where Guildford's hearing will be staged.
