Former All Black John Schwalger has been promoted to the starting side in one of two changes to the Hurricanes side named to play the Stormers in Cape Town on Saturday.
Schwalger replaces Jeffery Toomaga-Allen at tighthead prop while Mark Reddish comes in for Mark Abbott in the second row.
Coach Mark Hammett is clearly keen to bolster a scrum that misfired during a first-up 27-9 loss to the Sharks in Durban.
There are two more changes in the reserves where flanker Ardie Savea replaces Adam Hill and lock James Broadhurst comes in for Reddish.
Ben Franks will be making his 100th Super Rugby appearance in a career that included 83 caps for the Crusaders since 2006 and another 16 for the Hurricanes since he joined the franchise last season.
The brother of Crusaders prop Owen, Ben is in his ninth Super Rugby season and has 31 test caps to his name.
Meanwhile, the Stormers have made just one change to the side that lost 34-10 to the Lions with Jaco Taute coming in at fullback.
Taute's return means a backline reshuffle with Gio Aplon moving to the wing and wing Damian de Allende to second five-eighth to partner captain Jean de Villiers in the midfield.
Centre Michael van der Spuy drops out of the matchday squad altogether.
