Marina Erakovic is through to the quarterfinals of the Washington Open after beating American Shelby Rogers 6-2 6-2.

It took the New Zealander 64 minutes to win her second-round match and advance to the last eight in a WTA-level event for the first time since playing in Acapulco in February.

Her ranking has dipped over the past couple of months and she is down to 82 after starting the year at 46.

However, the 60 points she has already picked up this week should move her into the mid-70s when new rankings come out next week.

Her next match in Washington will be against the winner of the match between eighth seed Sorana Cirstea, of Romania, and Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski.
