Marina Erakovic's sensational form at the WTA tournament in Washington DC has continued, with the New Zealander making it through to the semifinals of the event in America.

Today in the quarterfinals Erakovic beat Bojana Jovanovsi from the Serbian 6-4 6-4 in a match that lasted one hour 20 minutes.

Erakovic, who has a world ranking of 82, went into the match as the underdog against Jovanovski, who is at 36, but she produced one of her best performances of the year to get the win.

Erakovic was able to get in 64 per cent of her first serves, which is always a sign that she's going to do well in a match, but a more impressive statistic was that she won 55 per cent of the points on her second serve as this is usually one of the weaknesses in her game.

In tomorrow's semi-final, Erakovic plays Kurumi Nara from Japan.

The two players have gone up against each other twice before and have shared the wins. Both of those matches were in 2011, with Erakovic thrashing Nara 6-0 6-0 at the French Open, while the Japanese player won 4-6 6-1 6-3 at the Australian Open.
