Marina Erakovic wins first round doubles match

Marina Erakovic's winning form continues at the US Open, claiming a comfortable first round victory in the women's doubles.

Yesterday the Kiwi No 1 scored a major upset in the opening round of singles action with a gritty three-set win over 20th seed and former champion Svetlana Kuznetsova (Russia). It was her first ever singles match win at the US Open.

Today Erakovic teamed with Spain's Arantxa Parra Santonja to beat the American pair of Louisa Chirico and Katerina Stewart 6-4 6-3 in one hour and 15 minutes on court seven at the Flushing Meadows complex in New York.

It was their ability to convert six of nine break-point opportunities that got Erakovic and her partner home.

Erakovic has eight doubles titles to her name and is in solid form with Parra Santonja after getting to the quarterfinals at the French Open, winning a title in the Netherlands and making the final in New Haven last week.
