Pakistan want to host their looming Davis Cup tie against New Zealand and believe the Kiwis should be fined if they don't front.

New Zealand officials are pushing for the June 9-11 tie to be played outside of Pakistan because of security concerns.

New Zealand have already asked the International Tennis Federation to shift the tie to either New Zealand or a neutral venue.

That request came in December but the ITF said it would only review the situation if the tie actually eventuated.

It's now a reality after New Zealand beat Sri Lanka 3-2 to reach the Asia-Oceania zone group two semifinal against Pakistan.

The BBC reported that the Pakistan Tennis Federation said New Zealand should either play in Pakistan or be fined for refusing to.

Last year the ITF fined Australia $10,000 for refusing to play in India because of security reservations.

But the Pakistan security situation seems to be on a bigger scale with sporting teams increasingly reluctant to play there after last year's terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team in Lahore.

Pakistan's protests over the Davis Cup tie against New Zealand may fall on deaf ears.

Pakistan played their last three Davis Cup ties against Oman, Hong Kong and the Philippines away from home because of the very reasons that New Zealand have raised.
