New Zealand tennis No 1 Marina Erakovic has won her sixth career WTA doubles title, with first-time partner Heather Watson, at the $US740,000 Stanford event in Califonia.

Erakovic and Watson edged the American and Australian combination of Vania King and Jarmila Gajdosova in today's final, winning 7-5 7-6 in an hour and 48 minutes.

The Kiwi and her British partner overcame an early break with two breaks of their own to claim the first set 7-5, and went on to win the second set tiebreaker 9-7, though they did get the jitters when serving for the match at 5-3, and with two match points at 5-4.

Erakovic is building toward the Olympic tournament on the grass courts of Wimbledon.

Earlier on centre court, Serena Williams claimed the Stanford singles title with a 7-5 6-3 victory over fellow American Coco Vandeweghe.

Stanford is one of the premier stops on the WTA Tour.
