Tennis superstar Venus Williams is making the most of her time in New Zealand after withdrawing from the ASB Classic through injury.

Williams and media personality James McOnie did a very Kiwi version of Carpool Karaoke, with McOnie teaching her a Maori waiata - Tutira mai nga iwi - and getting Williams to sing along.

There was also some nifty poi work on their drive around the streets of Auckland.

McOnie tempted her with some Kiwi favourites, namely Pineapple Lumps and a Peanut Slab, though the American didn't seem as keen on Marmite after a whiff from the jar.

Among his other gifts were a pair of jandals, a box of Weet Bix, and a soft toy kiwi which she named Nelson.

Williams pulled out of the Classic with an injury, after beating Kiwi wildcard Jade Lewis in the first round.
