The final everyone wanted to see will happen.

Ana Ivanovic defeated Kirsten Flipkens 6-0 7-6 in her semifinal at the ASB Classic today to set up a match against Venus Williams in the final.

Williams didn't need to play her semifinal as Jamie Hampton pulled out with a hip injury, but Ivanovic needed just 70 minutes to book her spot in the final, once again playing some outstanding tennis.

The first set lasted just 21 minutes as Ivanovic from Serbia blasted her opponent off the court.

Flipkens, the No 3 seed, had looked impressive throughout her week in Auckland and it would have been a shock to everyone to see her get taken apart like she did.

The second seeded Ivanovic won all but one of the points where she got her first serve in over that set, Flipkens won just five of the points on her first serve.

But the second set couldn't have been more different to the first. Flipkens was able to put that disastrous beginning behind her and hold her service games.

Ivanovic did have a break point when the Belgian was serving at 5-5, but was unable to convert and the set went into a tiebreak.

Flipkens did go 2-1 up in it, with a mini break, but then lost four points in a row which all but sealed her fate.

Ivanovic set up match point with an outstanding running forehand down the line and when Flipkens put the ball out attempting a similar shot it was game over.
