I brought this 1974 V6 Capri for $600 about 15 years ago.

It was a complete mould and rust-ridden mess. The restoration took about five years and cost more than $12,000 (10 years ago).

If you've never attempted a bare metal rebuild - take your original estimate and triple it. Skilled restorers don't come cheap, and nothing will upset you more at the end than a sub-standard job.

The car is in storage for 11 months of the year, but every Christmas it's dusted off and driven every day. I couldn't even consider selling it - there's too much of me in it now.
