Train better when navigating out of Heathrow
The last time I hired a car out of Heathrow my flight was over an hour late landing and then I still had to clear Customs, get to the hire car company, fill in their endless paperwork and finally get the car.
By this time I was over two hours behind schedule and it was pitch black. I had a satellite navigator in my car but still managed to take a couple of wrong turns and ended up driving through central London rather than my plan to skirt around the outside.
Tips to note:
1.) You can put in a request to hire a satellite navigator through some car hire companies but there is no guarantee there will be one available when you pick up your car.
2.) For some reason satellite navigator doesn't seem to work very well in the heart of London.
I would recommend taking the Heathrow Express into Paddington Station, then take the train to your first destination and hire a car from there.
