We have just returned from two months in Europe. Of all the places we visited Italy was our favourite.

I have been lucky enough to spend a lot of time in Italy over the years but I had never been to Lake Como before. It did not disappoint.

Everything we did, and everywhere we went on the Lake, offered us beautiful photo opportunities.

We stayed with Italian friends who had a villa on the waterfront in Abbadia Lariana, about five minutes drive from the bigger town of Lecco.

The De Battista family had a house in the mountains behind Lake Como and that is where we had been on the day the above photo was taken. They would spend their summers in the mountain house as it was much cooler than staying on the Lake.

Lake Como is a magical place full of beauty at every turn. We spent a day out on the Lake, taking in one picturesque town after another and beautiful manicured gardens and villas. We explored the wonderful Island of Comacina and its amazing archaeological sites dating back to the 5th century.

Lake Como offers all that is great about Italy, none of which is complete without the wonderful, certainly in our case, hospitality and warmth of the Italian people.
