I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum with both my pregnancies. It's so hard to describe the hell I was in. I was told so many times to eat early, or to try this and that but nothing worked. I feared having sips of water because that would come back up too!

With the first pregnancy I was in hospital by week nine with constant vomiting. We were warned that it could be due to twins but my scan revealed just one baby (phew). I had to give up working immediately as I continued vomiting, was very weak and fainted often. During that pregnancy I was in and out of hospital five times, lost 18kg, and had to shave my head as I couldn't properly care for myself. I had to move back in with my mum so that my husband could go to work without worrying that I'd faint on the way to the loo. Our baby was born at 38 weeks via caesarean as it was obvious that I couldn't handle a normal delivery.

For the second pregnancy we thought we were prepared for anything - we were wrong! This time it was harder. I still vomited the whole nine months. We had a 5-year-old daughter to care for. My mother had passed and I still had numerous hospital stays. Thankfully our friends helped out taking my daughter to school, or having her stay with them for a week at a time when I was in hospital. As I didn't drive I would often be driven home from school by strangers as they had found me passed out or vommiting on my way home. I lost 16kg, had to shave my head again and was told I could take up until week 20 to decide if I would continue my pregnancy. I stuck it out and our second daughter was born at 38 weeks by emergency caesarean, as I passed out while at the hospital and they couldn't bring me around for over 10 minutes.

As soon as my babies were born I felt great. It all went away as fast as it appeared. Will I be trying again for more babies? No! In fact I had my tubes tied during my second caesarean!!
