It angers me to read, repeatedly, of people looking for a new home for their pet because 'we can no longer give him the time/attention', or 'having to move new place doesn't allow pets', or 'going overseas can't take him'.

Pets are for life. They are part of the family and should absolutely be part of the consideration when weighing up commitments on time, where to move to, etc. There is the odd circumstance that is unavoidable, such as an owner having to move in to hospital, but the tendency is to go for the easy option, rather than honouring a commitment.

Taking on a pet is a commitment, including providing them with a home forever.

Pets are the losers here, being passed around like a hand me down.
