For the birth of my first baby I had an epidural because I was scared at being a firs-time mum. With my second baby boy I never got that chance.

It was about 7:00pm and I felt hungry so my husband and I drove to McDonalds to get something to eat. I was driving and on the way there I started getting pains and had to pull over for a bit, but after a few minutes I started driving again.

I had a bit of an idea that this was labour but I ignored it and continued to drive to McDonalds. I then drove to Countdown where I started to get more pains to the point where I couldn't walk. I had to get back in to the car and my husband drove us back home.

Within 20 minutes my contractions became unbearable. They were only a few minutes apart and there was no time to get to the hospital - I was on the bed and the baby was definitely on his way.

We called the midwife but there was no way she could make it on time. My husband and his sister were there to help bring the baby out.All the sisters turned up and we basically had the whole family in the room - the only one that missed out was Nana.

The funny thing about this birth moment was my husband's dad, who was hungry, and while he as he could see I was giving birth he asked if he could have my Big Mac! Oh boy, he was kicked out of the room as fast he came in!

Baby Eli was born around 8:20pm, delivered by my husband and my sister-in-law. It was a great moment. Eli's full name is Eli Te Whanau Miller, which means the family, because our whole family was there.

Every time I tell someone his middle name is Te Whanau I always have to tell them there's a great story behind it.
