I cycle to work every day on a 25km round trip. It's a good time for me to get some exercise and arrive at work feeling fresh and awake. The traffic is generally good. I make sure I obey the road rules, indicating changes of lane or turns, stopping at lights, etc.

I realise that some cyclists break the rules and give us a bad name with other road users. In the same way, I encounter bad drivers that sometimes overtake without a safe gap, overtake when traffic is oncoming, overtake and turn immediately left without indicating, clip me with their wing mirrors when overtaking, etc.

I try not to get annoyed as confrontation doesn't help in these situations.

But I would like the police to take cyclists' complaints of bad driving more seriously. I have had two incidents reported now with no satisfactory investigation or follow up.

I am still committed to my cycle commute, however. I don't like paying through the nose to sit in traffic, pay for parking, insurance, tax, fuel and vehicle upkeep when I can get to work in the same time, on a bike, for minimal cost.
