Family holidays are about spending time with others, but for us it's also about making a splash.

We often head to the Bay of Islands (Russell) and doing some bombs at Tapeka is now the tradition.

This last New Year's Eve my brother-in-law Rob Smith  (pictured) showed us the way at the end of an awesome day - successful fishing, perfect weather, happy times with friends and family.

After the bombs at the rockpools at Tapeka we had to swim back to the main beach quickly as the tide was coming in.

Awesome way to see 2012 out.
