No good option for a new NZ national anthem A week in my reality as a solo mum Pet of the day: Gunnar the husky Weather photo of the week: July 31, 2015 Top five reader comments for Thursday Have you ever been a lab rat? Mental illness 'just another injury' 'Wouldn't change my life' as a single mum Does New Zealand need a new national anthem? All Blacks 'a tough team to pick'

Our readers share their picks for the best 10 landmarks in the world. We'll be compiling a list of all submissions for a reader vote to find the definitive top 10 must-see sights.

There are some obvious ones that should be on everyone's list: Taj Mahal, Angkor Wat, Machu Picchu.

Let's not forget some more local ones that aren't going to make many people's international list: the Opera House, Uluru and Punakaiki Pancake Rocks (my favourite New Zealand landmark) as well as my favourite lighthouse: Nugget Point in the Catlins. Remember the old advertising slogan "don't leave town 'til you've seen the country"?

So my top 10 includes a mix of favourites I've been to (10 through six) and others I have yet to see (five through one):

10. Nugget Point

9. Sydney Opera House

8. Punakaiki Pancake Rocks

7. Brandenburg Gate (Berlin)

6. Arc de Triomphe (Paris)

5. Uluru

4. Alcatraz (and why not look at it from the Golden Gate Bridge?)

3. Machu Picchu

2. Angkor Wat

1. Taj Mahal
