This decision was often influenced by the people who inspired us as children.

When you were growing up, which women influenced you? Was it the daring Amelia Earhart? Our former Prime Minister Helen Clark? Sportswomen such as Valerie Adams? Pioneers like Kate Sheppard?

Maybe you found your influence later in life, in a lecturer or a mentor.

We don't care if they're famous or not, we just want to know what they meant to you.

We want to hear about the women who had an impact on your life - outside of your mother and family. How did they shape your future?

And what impact do you hope to have on people?

Share your story of the women who inspired you by clicking the big contribute button, or emailing stuffnation@stuff.co.nz. As always, we're looking for submissions of 300 words or more.

Nominate a Women of Influence you know by 28 May at stuff.co.nz/womenofinfluence
