Chris Cornell's family said the death was "sudden and unexpected".

The death of Chris Cornell, the frontman for Soundgarden, has sparked an outpouring of grief from fellow musicians and fans

Cornell, whose career also included time in Temple of the Dog, the supergroup Audioslave and a solo career, was 52.

He delivered his final gig at Detroit's Fox Theatre before he was found dead hours later, on the bathroom floor of his room at the nearby MGM Grand Hotel.

Some fans have gone as far to say Cornell soundtracked the 90s for for them. To many, he was one of the chief architects of the grunge movement.

We want to know what he meant to you. Did he inspire you to pick up an instrument? How many times did you get to see him grace the stage? Did Cornell's music help you through your own dark times?

This is your chance to pay tribute to the role, big and small, Cornell and his music played in your life. Click the contribute button to get started or email stuffnation@stuff.co.nz. As always, we're looking for submissions of at least 250 words.
