The Auckland suburb of Hobsonville was struck by a fatal tornado this afternoon with reports of widespread damage.

Trees have been uprooted, a trampoline flipped and fences crushed by the force. There are reports of surface flooding across Auckland 

Heavy weather has been battering the North Island today. The front was expected to bring up to 15mm of rain as well as thunder and lightning.
