Grand gestures: beyond the bended knee

The shortest engagement in history 'I think I stopped breathing at this point' Proposal mowed into paddock A proposal of epic, Disney proportions This proposal was two years in the making Who says romance is dead? Grand proposals: Romantic ride of a lifetime Popping the question in Paris Marriage proposal on a global scale Will you marry me?...Who is this?

My partner Ailsa and I flew to Tonsai, Thailand; an amazing place where people from all around the world come to rock climb and base jump.

We met up with a few mates who had just finished jumping in the annual KL Base event held in September-October.

Four of us climbed the Tonsai main wall, a 121-metre overhanging cliff.

The conditions were good so we geared up and with a crowd of about 20 people on the beach we slapped hands and got stoked on life.

The other three jumped first as I wanted my mate to be on the ground with Ailsa so he could film it, and to build the suspense a little.

I had the ring in my pocket and the plan was to do a nice and easy, flat and stable jump and land right in front of her before going straight down on one knee.

The jump went well but my canopy skills were a little rusty so I ended up flying down the beach about 50m from where she was. She came down and then I dropped to one knee.

I fumbled for a while to get the ring out of my pocket but when I did there were tears!
