What's the worst long-haul flight you've ever been on? Philippa Hyndman had a real stinker of an experience.

I was travelling back from Thailand with a friend on a flight from Singapore to Melbourne.

We had seats together, but the row in front was empty so my friend sat there so she could sleep across the row. She took a couple of sleeping pills and quickly fell asleep.

From then on, every five minutes or so a terrible stench wafted back through the row. It was so bad I had to cover my nose with with my shirt so I could continue to breathe until the plane's air circulation systems took it away.

Each time it happened I thumped the back of her seat, but those sleeping pills did such a good job that her entire body was relaxed and she didn't wake up.

Finally, we landed in Melbourne where we had a 17-hour stopover, giving her enough time to expel any leftover nocturnal gas.

We still laugh about it now.
