Blood, sweat and tiers of joy
Now, that takes the cake
A friend asked if I would make a cake for her daughter's fifth birthday. After agreeing to do so I met with her daughter.
She described to me how she wanted her cake to look and then what flavours she wanted. Children have the best imaginations and straight away I knew it was going to be a challenge.
It took me four days to put the cake together. It was a two tier double layered cake.
The first tier consisted of two vanilla cakes smothered and sandwiched together with butter cream frosting.
The second tier was three layers of chocolate cake to get the desired shape and then once again coated in more butter cream frosting.
It was hard work, but all worth it as a little girl was left smiling, her parents were happy, and guests enjoyed the cake saying it was "moist" and "yummy". I was able to breathe a sigh of relief.
Being a homebaker who enjoys cake decorating as a hobby, this is my favourite cake to date.
