My favourite book of all time, has to be Outlander. I first read the book in 1998. I got it out from the library then bought a copy to read when I was living in the halls of residence at university
Then I bought the next three in the series, and waited with baited breath for the next one to arrive.
Every time Diana Gabaldon releases a new book I read the new book then reread the entire series (we are up to book eight now).
I have had to replace my original book since the first one fell apart after much reading, and now I have it on my e-reader as well.
I am not usually one to get into a book that involves a crazy concept like time travel, but somehow Gabaldon makes it not only believable but makes me want to try the theory.
The premise of the book is that a wartime nurse, Claire, from 1945, while trying to reconnect with her husband after being separated during the war, walks through a crack in time and ends up 200 years in the past and falls in love with an outlawed Highlander, Jamie.
The books bring these characters to life, they become part of your family, you suffer through the hardships of the eighteenth century with them.
It will make you laugh, it will make you cry, it will make you fall in love, and it will leave you invested and anxiously waiting to see what is going to happen next.
If you like historical romances (that are a little raunchy at times) go and get hooked on this.
I'm currently re-reading the book for the I-don't-know-how-many-th-time. I cannot wait to see the TV series they have made.
