Taking it to the extreme: Waterski jumping
Our 'Taking it to the extreme' assignment asks our readers to show off their extreme sports action. If you've got air time recently, send us the evidence!
I've been skiing since I was young, just with the family on the weekends and really had no idea about the sport of tournament skiing.
By sheer luck I was seen skiing and asked to come to Lake Crichton in Canterbury to try the sport. I ended up moving from Hokitika to Christchurch for school. I went to boarding school at Christchurch Boys' High School and was able to train out at Lake Crichton and I've been chasing this dream of being a pro-skier ever since.
Right now I'm in Florida training for the under 21 world water ski champs in September.
This video was taken in Polk City Florida at Fluid ski and sports, about 40 minutes from where I am based while I'm here. The event was the fluid summer record and it's one of the many events I am and have skied. The jump is now a pending under-21 New Zealand record of 61.3meters. The standing record was 60 metres.
