That one time, at a festival...

There were definitely feelings of sadness as I packed up the tent and my sleeping bag for what would be my final music festival in the UK.

I had been so blessed with all the music events I had been able to attend and I was so pleased that I finished on a high note with Bestival, the best festival.

The journey down to the Isle of Wight from East London involved a bus, then a train, then a ferry, then another bus and took us about four hours, so you can imagine the relief we felt when we finally had our tents pitched among the crowds in the red zone within the Bestival camp site.

This festival was unlike any I have attended in the UK before as the focus was not just on the music but the atmosphere.

There were amazing sculptures everywhere, and crazy bars with transgender performers dancing with pizza boxes. There was a ship as a stage which you would find if you took a stroll past the giant hammocks in the forest and there was even a blow up church where you could actually get married (unfortunately I was not so lucky).

The music at Bestival would not stop at midnight like many of the other festivals I have attended - it would run right through to the wee hours of the morning. The first night we waited until 1am to see M.I.A take to the stage for her only UK festival performance of the summer.

The second nght Fat Boy Slim put on a special performance to celebrate Bestival's tenth birthday.

On Day three Snoop Dogg made an appearance with all the hits you would expect from a hip hop legend and the festival was closed with a performance from Sir Elton John, which gives me chills even now as I reminisce.

But as I mentioned earlier this festival was not just about the music. We would spend most of our days and nights exploring the various different stages, taking in the crazy costumes or taking shelter from the rain (I have been so lucky up until now).

If I could chose one festival to do all over again it would be Bestival. Take me back.
