Kiwi booze culture: Our MPs blew it
Changing the Kiwi booze culture
Last year our MPs had the opportunity to do something about New Zealand's drinking problem and they blew it. They voted with their wallets and not their heads (with ears and eyes attached and working).
The signs are all out there that today's 18-year-olds cannot act responsibly regarding alcohol, yet our MPs ignored the obvious and voted stupidly. Even our esteemed Prime Minister admitted they got it wrong, and yet no attempt has been made to redress the situation.
Unfortunately alcohol and drugs, whether legal or not, seem to be necessary today for a rather disproportionate number of young people to enjoy themselves. The excessive abuse is having an inverse affect on society in general.
I look back to my youth and feel glad there were more restrictions on us because I know we would have taken advantage of any relaxation also. It seems to be the way of youth behaviour eternally - to push the limits.
