Best place to live in NZ: Whanganui
The best place to live in NZ is...
Whanganui or Wanganui: We may have two names but we have one fierce sense of identity.
We know we are fortunate by birth or by choice to live in a place where a river still weaves our lives together daily in the same way that it has woven our histories, both maori and pakeha. Until we go to other places we forget that what we take for granted parts of our lives that do not exist in such diversity in many other places.
We are surrounded by the mystery, culture and stunning beauty of the Whanganui River valley, the presence of the legacy of our forebears in the gracious architecture and collections of the Sarjeant Gallery, the Regional Museum, the Royal Opera House, and a way of life where going home for lunch is still possible, and countless opportunities exist for young and old.
If people meeting your eye in the street, a warm greeting to a stranger, a visual feast of parks and reserves, the creativity of young people and the wisdom of the elderly is important, then this is the place for you.
We are two cultures and one community.
