TROUBLED Aussie league star Brett Seymour will almost certainly be at the Warriors next year after secret top-level discussions between club officials and the NRL in Sydney on Friday afternoon.
The Warriors have officially confirmed they are "in discussions" with the former Bronco and Sharks playmaker, who earlier this year had his Cronulla deal ripped up after repeat offences involving alcohol.
But if they are to sign him, NRL boss David Gallop must be satisfied with any contract.
Last week, Gallop told Sunday News: "We've had some preliminary discussions about Brett playing at the Warriors and we've indicated there would have to be certain conditions we'd want to see in the contract around behaviour and obviously alcohol."
Those discussions continued on Friday and yesterday Gallop confirmed the Warriors had been briefed about their responsibilities regarding Seymour.
"There are certainly opportunities in our game for players to be given a chance to restart their careers but the onus is now on clubs to accept the responsibility that comes with that."
Warriors CEO Wayne Scurrah was coy about the meeting but confirmed things had gone well. "I think we clearly understand where we are and we need to go back now and have discussions internally with our board," Scurrah told Sunday News from Sydney yesterday.
Seymour, who could not be reached for comment yesterday, is expected to move to New Zealand in the coming weeks, when he will participate in an alcohol rehabilitation programme.
