'There's some new guys who we need to give a bit of a run, show us what they can do at the next level,' says new Black Caps coach Mark Greatbatch.

MARK "Paddy" Greatbatch is sharpening a master plan to bring home the Twenty20 World Cup.

Unveiled as new Black Caps coach yesterday, Greatbatch, 46, is on a mission to turn the Black Caps into a limited overs batting machine and has already lowered his sights on Pakistan's World Cup crown.

"We've got to start looking at a strategy of how we're going to win that World Cup. It's definitely a goal. It's why you do it," Greatbatch told Sunday News.

"We've got probably five Twenty20 games to look at how we're going to do that between now and April.

"We might not win them all but we'll know the best way to play for that tournament and go with confidence to compete and triumph.

"We're doing some swatting on Pakistan – they are doing some things right. We're just less than 50% at winning matches. We've got to get that to 60-70.

"I think we're a pretty good Twenty20 and one-day unit and not far off being very, very good.

"If we can just get a little bit better. It's exciting."

Over the next few days, Greatbatch says he'll sit down with New Zealand Cricket top-brass and hammer out some more "challenging but achievable targets".

Warning that all players are back to square one and must prove their worth from scratch, Greatbatch says he's not afraid to shake-up the Black Caps with fresh blood.

"There's some new guys who we need to give a bit of a run, show us what they can do at the next level," he said.

And Greatbatch's World Cup aspirations will go under the microscope immediately.

Many fans will expect a comfortable series win over lowly ranked Bangladesh beginning with a Twenty20 in Hamilton on Wednesday.

And the new coach admits he's already feeling the squeeze not to kick-off his 15-month initial term with failure.

"Bangladesh won't be easy-beats, they've had a good run," he said. "So we're going to have to be on our mettle." "

New Zealand Cricket CEO Justin Vaughan has confirmed Greatbatch will answer to Black Caps skipper Daniel Vettori.
