LATEST: A 26-year-old German tourist has been rescued this evening after he fell on Mt Taranaki.

The Palmerston North rescue helicopter was sent out with alpine rescue teams to save the man after he called for help at 2pm.

Police said he suffered moderate back and hand injuries and had been taken to hospital.

They said he had been found on the Stratford side of the mountain.
