Taranaki Daily News readers have said no to the idea of establishing a Parihaka Day.
More than 320 people responded to the media company's online poll. We asked readers if they thought New Zealand needed a special day to comemmorate Parihaka Day, which would fall on November 5, the same day we remember Guy Fawke's attempted bombing of England's Parliament.
But 65 per cent of respondents agreed that Waitangi Day was sufficient as a purely New Zealand day of remembrance, while 35 per cent supported the move to reflect on what happened at Parihaka.
