Opunake's Everybody's Theatre committee has public backing for structural strengthening of the closed building.
After getting $221,000 from Pub Charity for the work, a public consultation process was called for by funding agencies before they would consider adding financial support to this plan and another to upgrade the theatre's interior.
Committee member Debbie Campbell said the 220 feedback forms received supported going ahead.
Fundraising has now been combined for $8500 of the total $15,000 goal to be raised by the public.
