OPINION: The Paritutu tragedy has been heartfelt by Taranaki people.
Thousands of students have broadened their individual horizons through experiencing the activities offered at Topec over the past 25 years, along with adult students such as myself - I recently attended a leadership course - to make us more effective as individuals in emergency situations.
My wish is that the inquiry into this unfortunate incident will be able to evaluate the outstanding merits that have gone before that fatal day and allow common sense to show that without Topec there would be the possibility that some of the many students over those years might have not survived situations unless they had experienced the life skills offered through the various courses.
