A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after a collision with a truck and trailer unit near Te Wera, east of Stratford today.
The 34-year-old Manaia man crashed into the truck and trailer just before mid-day on SH43.
Constable Andrew Russ said it appeared the motorcyclist had lost control on a bend.
The motorbike bike slid under the truck and was carried a 20 metres down the road while rider slid down the side, Mr Russ said.
''He's an extremely lucky man to be honest.''
The man was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital by the Community Rescue Helicopter with serious injuries to his back, head and arm.
Mr Russ said police inquiries were continuing but it appeared rider error was the major contributing factor.
