Police are looking into the death of a baby in Manaia this morning.

Firefighters were called to the South Taranaki house just after 6am after getting reports of a two-month-old not breathing.

Detective Guy Jackson said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and it would be referred to the coroner as was standard practice.

He wouldn't comment any further until all family members had been notified.
