OPINION: I was surprised to see a minor administration matter sensationalised by your newspaper.

I refer to cremation certificate fees being paid to hospital junior medical staff.

The cremation certificate is more comprehensive than the death certificate it accompanies, and involves the doctor viewing the patient after death to establish identity, to avoid the possibility of the papers going with a different body.

Ash cash is admittedly flippant, but it is reasonable shorthand for junior staff pooled cremation fee payments.

If these payments stop, then completing cremation certificates will likely go to the bottom of a busy house surgeon's ''to do'' list, and there will be a delay in releasing the body, inconveniencing funeral directors and family arrangements.

Those friendly hospitals which continue the payments may find it easier to recruit recent graduates because of their attitude, rather than the trivial amount of money involved - a very small fraction of the total cost of funerals.

Should the media report suicide?

Yes, we shouldn't sweep it under the carpet and pretend it doesn't happen.

No, it's upsetting and a private matter and there's the danger of copycats.
