A 55-year-old female suffered chest and wrist injuries when a horse bolted on her in Egmont Village yesteray.

St John operations manager Ian May said it had been a relatively quiet day Christmas for the service in the region.

A 69-year-old man suffered moderate injuries when he fell off a roof in Stratford and another person got a fork stuck in their foot, he said.

Mr May said the rest of the callouts in Taranaki yesterday were for medical reasons.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
