Three busy burglars were busted by police in the early hours of this morning.

Two of the trio, two aged 19 and one 21, were found returning to a nearby address after allegedly breaking into an orthopaedic surgery on Vivian St, while the third was found hiding inside the house.

Senior Sergeant Allan Whaley said it was alleged the men had also broken into St Joseph's Parish on Boxing Day and TelfarYoung on December 27, both are on Powderham St.

Stolen property including alcohol and computers was recovered, Mr Whaley said.

The men are due to appear in New Plymouth District Court today.

Police were asking residents in the Powderham and Vivian streets area to check their properties for signs of damage or missing items.

''We suspect that the group has been involved in more burglaries in that immediate area,'' Mr Whaley said.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
