Rescue workers help a man injured in a logging accident

A man was pulled from the bottom of a ravine in eastern Taranaki after a logging accident this morning. 

St John Ambulance district operations manager Ian May said the 47-year-old forestry worker had been hit in the leg by a log and thrown five metres while he was working on Douglas North Road in Huiroa, north east of Stratford about 10:45am. 

The man was rescued by the Toko and Stratford fire brigades using a basket stretcher and was carried 100m through the steep forest to the Taranaki Rescue Helicopter.

He was taken to Taranaki Base Hospital with moderate leg injuries.
