Farmers hoping for rain will be clapping their hands with glee to hear the weather should stay wet until Wednesday.
The Metservice put out a severe weather warning for Mt Taranaki this morning, saying between 9am to 7pm today a further 60 to 90mm of rain is expected to fall.
''Rain should become heavy later this afternoon or early evening, with peak intensities of 20 to 25mm/h
The Metservice said rivers were likely to rise rapidly and minor flooding was possible within
some river systems.
''As the ground has been very dry, rain may pool as surface flooding, and run off faster than what may be expected under normal conditions.''
The rain is forecast to ease with showers tomorrow, becoming clear and sunny again by Wednesday.
