An urgent meeting between Witt staff and the council is under way at the Taranaki polytech.

Western Institute of Technology at Taranaki (Witt) council chair Mary Bourke said staff  requested a meeting with the council to ask some questions.

The questions come in the wake of Witt council rejecting chief executive Richard Handley's request to extend his contract by two years, which was refused by the Witt council.

Miss Bourke said the council had been provided with a list of questions but gathered there would be additional questions at the end of the meeting.

The 4pm meeting was closed to the media.

On Saturday the Taranaki Daily News exposed tension between the Witt council and Witt senior management amidst of claims of bullying by the council chair.
