The Normanby overbridge will be closed for two days from this morning so roadworks crews can lay a more durable road surface.
New Zealand Transport Agency spokesman Anthony Frith said the work was designed to improved skid resistance and safety.
The work will begin from 9am and run through to 4pm on both days. Detours will be put in place.
